Time Period: The Great Global Convergence (1400-1800) to the Present
Focus: Study the world from the Age of Exploration to contemporary times in order to understand the implications of increased global interactions. Students will use the 5 themes of geography to examine the patterns of change and continuity with a focus on conflict, cooperation, economic development, population shifts, political thought, organization, cultural values, beliefs and the impact of environment over time. Students will investigate the various factors that shaped the development of societies and regions in the modern world and global interactions.
Grading:
Grading Scale: A (93-100) B (85-92) C (77-84) D (70-76) F (Below 70)
Current Events: 2-3 times a quarter students will be required to search for current news stories based on the regions we are studying. The students will complete the current events using the edmodo.
Class work: Students will be given the necessary time needed to complete class work. It will be collected and checked for accuracy. At times students will have to finish some of their class work for homework.
Test & Projects: Students will be given test and projects on the subject matter taught in class.
Homework: Students will be given homework on occasion. The majority of homework assignments that students will receive will be work they did not finish in class.
Absences: It is the student’s responsibility to make up any work they miss. All work can be accessed on my website or blackboard site.
Missing Work: At the end of every unit students will be given a progress report to complete all missing assignments for partial credit.
1-5 days Max score of 93
6-10 days Max score of 85
11-15 days Max score of 77
16-20 days Max score of 70
21 -30days Max score of 60
Anything pass 30days will be counted as a ZERO (0)
Recovery Plan: Students at risk of failing will complete a contract with a individualize plan for improvement. (Plans include: morning or afternoon tutoring sessions, working lunch, test corrections. Students with a pattern of not completing assignments will be referred for morning detention or afternoon school tutorial).
Table of Content: At the start of the new unit the students will be give a sheet to keep track of the assignments given. The assignments will be numbered and dated to help students stay organized.
Communication:
1. Respect: RESPECT EVERYONE and EVERYTHING!! Respect all materials in the classroom, whether they belong to you or not. You should never touch or take anything that does not belong to you. If you need to borrow supplies from the teacher, you must ask first. There is no name calling, bullying, teasing, pushing, laughing at, etc. in the school.
2. Arrival: When you come into the classroom, you must stay in the classroom. You cannot drop off your materials and go back in the hallway. Make sure you come prepared for class. (Pens AND Pencils, Binder, and any other previously assigned materials)
3. Starter: when you come to class, sit in your assigned seat quietly;
4. Daily Procedure: You must stay in your seat, unless you have permission from the teacher. This means you must ask to use the restroom, sharpen your pencil, etc. If you need to throw something away, you need to wait until the end of class.
5. Dismissal: The clock does not dismiss you. The teacher does. All materials need to be put back in place and the floor/desk needs to be clean.
6. School Policy: No book bags, No drawstring packs (even if you’re using it as a purse), No gum, No bulky coats, All cell phones need to be turned off and put away, No electronic devices of any sort (unless used for class activity, I will let you in advance when we will be using electronic devices in class). No cameras, No make-up, No lotion, No body spray/cologne/perfume and No combs/brushes!
7. Hall Pass: You will receive restroom/water/locker passes for the semester. To use these passes, you need to ask the teacher and then sign out. Use these wisely.
8. Participation: If you have a question or want to answer a question, raise your hand and wait to be called on. There should not be any shouting out or arguing about not getting called on. Also, remember to respect others opinions at all times.
9. Tardy Policy: Students are expected to come to class on time.
Discipline Policy: Students are responsible for their own actions in the classroom. When a student chooses behaviors that are not consistent with a positive learning environment, they are subject to disciplinary consequences. The following proactive warning system has been established to provide an opportunity for students to make adjustments in behaviors that will prevent administrative intervention.
Infraction Card Explanation
1st disruption- Yellow: First warning for inappropriate behavior
2nd disruption-Orange: Second and final warning
3rd disruption-Red: Removal from class/Administrative referral/Parent Contact
Severe Infraction: Immediate referral to administrator for immediate discipline action.

- Email Message(s): Email message that will go out occasionally that provides updates of concepts taught, assignments and topics studied.
